Highland, Kan. – Highland Community College (HCC), Kansas’s first college, proudly presents its 43rd Annual Art Day Thursday, April 17, 2025. Taking place across the HCC campus at 606 W Main St, Highland, Kansas, this all-day event invites high school students and the community to explore creativity under the theme “Story in Stone: A Paleolithic Art Day.”
A tradition spanning over four decades, Art Day will feature a juried show showcasing over 1,000 works of art, alongside hands-on workshops and exciting competitions. From cave-inspired sketches to modern interpretations of ancient techniques, participants will bring the theme to life through diverse mediums like painting, sculpture and more. The event highlights HCC’s commitment to fostering artistic talent and educational leadership in Northeast Kansas.
“This year’s theme, ‘Story in Stone,’ connects us to the earliest human expressions of art,” said Sam Perkins, HCC Art Day Coordinator. “We’re excited to see how high school students interpret this prehistoric spark in their own creative voices.”
Open to all high school students, Art Day offers a unique opportunity to display their work, compete for recognition, and engage with peers and mentors. The juried show will spotlight standout pieces, while workshops provide skill-building experiences led by HCC’s Visual Arts faculty and guest artists.
Highland Community College continues to enrich the region as a hub of learning and culture. Now in its 43rd year, Art Day remains a testament to HCC’s legacy of inspiring the next generation of artists. For more information or to participate, contact Sam Perkins or Brigitte Bruna.
