Now is the time to take your first step toward a career in health science! Nearly 60% of the current health workforce is comprised of allied health professionals, who are neither physicians nor nurses but hold expertise in select types of diagnostics, medical technology, therapy and patient care.

With choices offered in HCC’s Allied health courses, you can begin a career in the medical field with as little as 15 hours of certification!

Applicants will not be enrolled until all items on the checklist have been received.
High school students become eligible for free tuition under Excel in CTE funding (SB155) starting the summer after completing their sophomore year, up until their last semester in high school. High school freshmen and sophomores may take the course but must pay the tuition rate.

Allied Health Courses

12 Credit Hours

This course is designed to provide training for giving medical care to patients in the pre-hospital setting. The course will offer instruction and practical experience for students to develop the knowledge, skills, and attitudes needed for certification and practice as an Emergency Medical Technician-Basic (EMT-B) in Kansas.

6 Credit Hours

This course is based on the Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) Certified Nurse Aide Curriculum Guidelines (90 Hours) and prepares individuals to take the State certification exam. The course focuses on the responsibilities of the nurse aide working as a member of the health team in caring for residents of long-term care facilities. The course includes basic anatomy and physiology, communication skills, measurement of vital signs, and procedures to help meet the hygiene, nutrition, and rehabilitation needs of older individuals. Students who successfully complete this course and pass the State exam will be qualified to become a practicing Kansas Certified Nurse Aide (CNA).

5 Credit Hours

Prerequisite: CNA-Certificate 

This course is based on the Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) Medication Aide Curriculum and prepares individuals to take the State certification exam.  The course focuses on the responsibilities associated with medication administration, including drug dosage calculations. Upon successful completion of both the course and the State exam, the individual will be a Kansas Certified Medication Aide (CMA).

Prerequisite: CMA-Certificate 

Provides continued certification for the Certified Medication Aide.

2 Credit Hours

Prerequisites: NUR201

Home Health Aid is a 2 credit hour online course that prepares the individual to act in the role of a certified Home Health aide in a home setting. The course identifies the specific responsibilities and functions of the certified Home Health aide as a member of the health care team. Using a holistic approach, this course focuses on the clients physical, psychological, social, and spiritual needs. Included is the role of the family and the caregiver in meeting the clients' needs. The curriculum is based on the Kansas Department for Aging and Disability Services (KDADS) Certified Home Health Aide Guidelines (20 hours). A CNA is required as a prerequisite. Upon successful completion of both the course and the state exam, the individual will be a Kansas Home Health Aide (HHA).
