Your Questions Are Answered!
These questions are for if you're just getting started with the application, are simply curious about the program, or need help with placement testing.
A: Start by completing the HCC Application for Admission. To make the process easier, follow the Early College “Getting Started" checklist.

Graduating seniors enrolling full-time at HCC must apply as a Regular Student
A: Asset testing is usually offered at each high school once a year, typically in the spring semester.
Please contact your school counselor for more information.
If you need testing sooner or missed your school’s testing date, you can chedule a placement test at an HCC campus or regional center.
A: Yes. Students may retest after a two-week waiting period. A $25 retesting fee may apply. Online practice tests are available to help you prepare.
These questions help you plan classes, understand expectations, and stay on track.
A: You are not assigned a campus advisor, but Early College staff can help with course selection and planning. Contact the Student Services Specialist at (785) 442-6141 or earlycollege@highlandcc.edu. Your high school counselor can also assist.

Dual Credit: Taught by HCC faculty; students earn both high school and college credit

Concurrent Enrollment: Taught by high school faculty; students earn both high school and college credit
Highland Community College limits its students to a credit hour load of:

Fall/Spring: up to 18 hours

8-week online session: up to 12 hours

Summer: up to 12 hours
Early College students may request overload approval (up to 21 hours) if they meet GPA and grade-level requirements.
- Minimum cumulative high school GPA of 3.0
- Must be a junior or senior in high school
An Early College Overload Request form must be completed, signed by student, parent and counselor. Completion of the form does not guarantee approval. Form must be attached to the Request for Overload Form.
A: Your college GPA starts with your first class. Poor grades can affect future financial aid, scholarships, and college admissions.
A: IContact your instructor as soon as possible. If you cannot complete the course, reach out to the Director of Concurrent Instruction and complete the Medical or Hardship Withdrawal Form.
A: You can find a list of important dates, including dropping classes and final grade postings, for each semester on the early college website.
A: If you are unable to drop your class through your MyHCC account, please log in to your HCC account and email earlycollege@highlandcc.edu with your: full name, high school, birthdate, student ID if possible, and the name of the course you would like to drop. Please confirm you are within the drop period and you may not be eligible for a refund. Please review the Important Dates found on the Early College Webpage.

Fall and Summer semester courses are available for enrollment in March.
Spring semester courses are available for enrollment in October.

A: Over 90 courses are listed on the Kansas Seamless Transfer list. Check the Transfer Guides or contact the college you plan to attend for confirmation. Every institution has different credits they will and will not accept based on curriculum and other policies.
A: HCC uses the National Student Clearinghouse for transcript requests.
A: No, students must enroll by the posted enrollment deadlines in the current semester the course is offered.

Doniphan County high school students' tuition and fees are waived, however, students may be responsible for additional supplemental fees.
A: High school students do not qualify for financial aid.
A: Pay online through your MyHCC account. Payment plans are available for a $25 non-refundable fee plus 10% of the balance. For more information, please visit HCC Payment Plans
A: Some courses qualify under the Excel in CTE program, which covers tuition for eligible Kansas students. Additional fees may still apply.

Textbooks are owned and maintained by HCC. Fees help cover upkeep and replacement so students don’t need to purchase books individually.
A: Holds may be due to unpaid balances or missing information. Contact Early College staff or the Business Office to resolve the issue.
A: The Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) DOES NOT allow HCC to give information on grades, student schedules, or student account information to anyone, including parents UNLESS the student has given consent by signing the FERPA release form.
If the student is not able to reach out through either email or phone call for some reason, we would be happy to answer general questions for parents. However, in order to discuss a student account, we need a FERPA release signed, stating it is okay to do so.
HCC staff will never discuss grades or specific assignments with any third party, only the students themselves. For more information on FERPA, please visit Student Right to Know.
A: The Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) allows HCC to release student
directory information i.e., student addresses, emails, majors, and some additional
information.
We prefer that the student reach out with any complication they have in the application
process so that they are able to do so with ease in the future both at our school
and others, as most application processes are similar no matter the institution.
A: Your login ID and a temporary password were emailed from donotreply@highlandcc.edu shortly after your application is processed.

A: Your username, HCC email address, temporary password, and student ID can all be found shortly after the submission of the online application in an email from donotreply@highlandcc.edu.

If you need your student id to sign up for a payment plan, please log in to your MyHCC account and click the Profile link and select Account Information.
